Subtly hilarious because it sounds a bit too familiar...
I would like to buy $3 worth of God, please, not enough to
explode my soul or disturb my sleep, but just enough to equal a cup of warm
milk or a snooze in the sunshine. I
don't want enough of Him to make me love a black man or pick beets with a
migrant. I want ecstasy, not
transformation; I want the warmth of the womb, not a new birth. I want a pound of the Eternal in a paper
sack. I would like to buy $3 worth of
God, please.

$3.00 Worth of God

I Relax I Feel Guilty, by Tim Hansel, 1981, David C. Cook Publishing Co.

| Good Friday, April 6, 2007
So, here I am Drowning in my thoughts and fears Unable to reach out
So, here I go Walking in Watts Venturing out (where am I going? I do not know the way)
So, here they come Asking to walk with me Can I say no?
So, here we go They, loud and fearless Me, timid and full-of-fear Reluctant (why am I walking the streets of Watts at 6pm unsure of where the rest are?)
So, here I stand Seven kids thrust into my hands Where is the rest of the team? What shall I do? Where shall I go? (Continual aimless walking seems not the best choice)
So, the phone rings There they are! Here comes one! To walk with us Much..to...my...relief.
So, here we go More confident At least, for me And here we arrive, Everyone together, Safe, at last In the refuge of the World Impact Center **breathe in**breathe out** To hear the story of The ultimate rescue And the ultimate Rescuer-- Much to my...relief--
It's a good thing, Lord -once in a while- to be reminded-- I am not in control. But You are.
Thank You. | | |

who would've guessed...most are for random criteria, ie. if you're from Iowa, you're a shoo-in...alas, such is not the case...but they have other ones, like Bohnett Memorial Fund and a writing competition by the Amy Foundation, "designed to recognize creative, skillful writing that presents in a sensitive, thought-provoking manner the biblical position on issues affecting the world today."
